What is the fastest way to defrost a turkey?

I just returned from Kroger's. I asked a worker there about defrosting a turkey. He said to place it in cold water. Allow 30 minutes per pound. For example, if it is a 20 pound turkey, then you would need to let it sit in cold water for 10 hours. By cold water, I mean cold out of the faucet.
