Catastrophic earth scenario for the end of the Mayan long count calendar on 21 November 2012?

I think there was mention of freemasons and pivot points in Richard William Noone's 1986 book 5/5/2000: ice, the ultimate disaster. Found the reference in Google but I read this book many years ago.
