Why is it whenever someone prays, like the pastor in church, the guys always put their elbows on their knees?

You know when they pastor or whoever says lets pray, the guys bend down and put their elbows on their knees, and like head all the way down, if you look at a congregation you see like all the guys bend down, girls just stay sitting, why is this
