Why does anyone care what Cindy McCain thinks about DADT - or anything else for that matter?

So today the media reports that Cindy McCain says DADT should be repealed and decides to make that a big story today. Pardon me, but who the hell cares what she thinks? I happen to agree with her, and disagree with her husband, but since when does what Cindy McCain think count as a news story? Even if she believed it should stay in effect forever, I still wouldn't care what she thinks. She isn't an elected official, anyways. What is up with the media covering pointless stories all the time?
